Great thoughts here. I'm really impressed. I blogged about this and another thought on barriers to online ministry:

Love to get your feedback over there also!

Very nice post, Brian -- many great ideas to implement at my own local church. Keep up the great work!

What if today's church problem is too much fellowship and not enough scholarship? Or no scholarship whatsoever?

Evan

Janice, when did churches become responsible for providing scholarships?

Is this a normal activity in other churches? Or after they reach a certain size?

Great post Brian, here's one you may want to write about: Church Politics. One of the reasons I disliked the last church I went to (oh so long ago) was the fact that one family had extraordinary power over what was done and how things were conducted (what buildings were going to be purchased/built, what play to do for xmas/Easter, etc). I definitely think that's a barrier to be aware of.

By the term "scholarship" I meant not financial scholarship but study or learning (I took it from our club logo - scholarship, fellowship, service).

I hear a lot of complain that there's not enough study, whether direct Bible or general Theology, and things get water down into some kind of "social club".

Excellent thoughts here. Take a look at our blog under "Pastor Mouse and Those Sacred Cows" to find more barriers that we need to overcome within the social structure of the church.

Thanks a bunch. I have scheduled a time to meet with the elders, ministers and web team of my church to discuss these exact concerns. Thanks for helping me to clearly understand the message and why it is important. I feel much better prepared.

Wow, those are a number of issues that we are constantly trying to address here too. Thanks for taking the time to write about your experiences with them.
