Hi Brian,

Thanks for the Bonus Advise. I will remember that one as our daughter (Lauren) grows up and the notes on allowances sound like great advise.

I'm reading about you in Naked Conversations... Thought I would come and show my blog support. I like this entry. Your valuing of your son's self-empowerment reinforces my own blogs I occasionally write with the theme that kids are our future, so treat them well:

I wish I was better about allowances. I never really got into it, being a single parent with barely enough money to get by. We need to have more money talks in my family. You've inspired me... now let's see if I follow through. -n.l.

Great post Brian! I love reading about your family and what the Lord is doing through your parenting.

I myself am an only child and sometimes I wish that we had more time for each of our three kids. But, we're learning our own lessons on time management and selflessness.

If you're interested, I wrote a short series of posts on what my kids have taught me about God. It can be found by going to chrishsms.blogspot.com and look in the Significant Posts sidebar section for "What my kids taught me."

Cool deal with the piano practicing. I think you're doing a great thing ... I myself started piano at 9 and quit practicing at 12 because I hated it. Then, for 9 years of my life I played only what I wanted to play (mainly Rock Stuff like The Cure and INXS) but at 21 I decided to get serious and ended up getting a classical music degree in piano from UNT.

Now at 32 I can look back and see how God was shaping me to play keys in a worship setting where I am able to accomodate a wide array of styles ... plus - it increased my math skills as well as my approach to computer programming.

Hope you're having a blessed day!

Andy
